Wimberly Interiors’ Designers Share their 2017 Autumn / Winter Design Inspirations
With early signs of Autumn appearing, Wimberly Interiors’ designers in London and New York talk through some of the hot interior trends we’re going to see emerging for Autumn / Winter 2017. Millennial pink is out, and lavish luxury is making a comeback.
“In hospitality design, while it’s easy to get caught up in a trend, it’s important to unearth the long-lasting trends, the trends that will still be relevant in the future.” Liana Hawes Young, Senior Associate, and Creative Director, Wimberly Interiors New York.
Wimberly Interiors top interior trends of A/W 2017:
“Mix it up! Use plenty of different textures, fabrics, and finishes to create a unique look”
Art of the Mix
Unexpected and surprising pairings will make for a refreshing twist.
“The current trend of ‘less is more’ will be replaced with ‘more is more’, focusing on the art of the mix; layering details, colours, and textures, to provide a curated and completed finish.” Liana Hawes Young, Senior Associate, and Creative Director, Wimberly Interiors New York.
“Mix it up! Use plenty of different textures, fabrics, and finishes to create a unique look” John Paul Pederson, Associate, Wimberly Interiors London.
Plush Plumage
There is a definite air of indulgence this season, expect lavish luxury; rich textures, sequins, sumptuous silk, soft leather, and feather trims. Embrace excess.
“A/W 2017 will be the season of indulgent luxury with a hint of fun. A blend of natural textiles and timbers will create a sense of warmth and comfort. Set against the backdrop of a natural material palette, a sense of the unexpected will be provided by soft velvet’s and hand-knit throws, adorned with rich jewelled tones and softened by hues of blush pink.” Rachel Johnson,Vice President and Studio Director, Wimberly Interiors London.
“I loved millennial pink this summer, but its popularity is decreasing and won’t make the transition into future seasons”
Millennial Pink Has Peaked
The unstoppable popularity of Millennial Pink has reached its saturation point. The generation-defining hue is fading, making way for an intensely rich autumn colour palette of dark plums, rich berries and dramatic reds.
“I loved millennial pink this summer, but its popularity is decreasing and won’t make the transition into future seasons. In New York we are starting to see the warmer colours of Fall and Winter start appear, some key favourites for the coming A/W Season are bottle green, aubergine, and marigold.” Liana Hawes Young, Senior Associate and Creative Director, Wimberly Interiors New York.
Going Wild
Animal prints have dominated the design scene for several seasons but this year, they are back with a twist. Majestic, wild and timeless, mix and match prints for pure animal magic.
“My motto has always been ‘I have never met an animal print I didn’t like’. Prints will make a huge comeback. Fabric houses are leading the way, updating their past prints in new colour ways, which is exciting! Nostalgia with a distinct hint of fun” Liana Hawes Young, Senior Associate, and Creative Director, Wimberly Interiors New York.
“Expect bold schemes, saturated colour and eccentric patterns.” Rita Willoughby, Associate, and Senior Designer, Wimberly Interiors London.
