The Taj Falaknuma Palace, sitting 2,000 feet above Hyderabad, India, had once stood as a forgotten treasure, with its opulent halls remaining vacant for half a century. However, recognizing its historical significance and untapped potential, the Taj Group embarked on a remarkable journey to restore this architectural marvel.

With its breathtaking location and illustrious past as a royal guest house, the palace held immense potential as a luxury hotel that could transport guests to a bygone era of romance and grandeur.
The Opportunity
The restoration of the Taj Falaknuma Palace presented an extraordinary opportunity to revive a dormant symbol of Hyderabad’s rich history. With its breathtaking location and illustrious past as a royal guest house, the palace held immense potential as a luxury hotel that could transport guests to a bygone era of romance and grandeur.




A collaboration between WATG and Wimberly Interiors with the Taj Group, a design was conceptualized that paid homage to the palace’s heritage while seamlessly blending modern elements.
The Design Concept
A collaboration between WATG and Wimberly Interiors with the Taj Group, a design was conceptualized that paid homage to the palace’s heritage while seamlessly blending modern elements. The restoration aimed to integrate new guest rooms harmoniously within the existing structure. The goal was to restore an architectural masterpiece to revive the palace’s original splendor and provide guests with captivating views of the 400-year-old city.
The Interiors
Meticulous attention was paid to the interiors, capturing the essence of royal decadence and heritage while maintaining an understated elegance. The Durbar Hall, Jade Room, and dining hall were bathed in the warm glow of Belgian chandeliers, creating a regal ambience. Guestrooms and public areas were adorned with exquisite details, from carefully selected furnishings to rich fabrics and captivating artwork. The design team sought to transport guests back in time, immersing them in the opulence and cultural significance of the Nizams.

Its restoration garnered international acclaim, including the coveted Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Travel Awards 2017 recognition as one of the world’s top 100 hotels.
