Architecture
As WATG’s first venture in Asia, the Shangri-La Garden Wing presented a unique opportunity to introduce something inspirational, new, and original to an existing high-rise hotel. The goal was to create a seamless integration of a low terraced wing, offering larger accommodations and bringing an element of surprise and delight to the well-established Shangri-La hotel in Singapore’s Asia Pacific region.
The opportunity
WATG seized the opportunity to enhance the Shangri-La hotel by designing the Garden Wing. The aim was to provide guests with an extraordinary experience in a place of peaceful serenity surrounded by a verdant and lush tropical garden. The challenge was to design an addition that complemented the existing hotel while creating a connection with nature.
The Design Concept
Inspired by the concept of paradise, WATG conceived the design for the Shangri-La Garden Wing to exude tranquility and serenity amidst the vibrancy of Singapore. The curvilinear design of the wing complemented the original hotel’s architecture, while the terraced façade showcased a stunning display of hanging plants. Each guest room has a plant-rimmed balcony that festoons the façade with nature like a garland of greenery and flowers.
The result
The Garden Wing became an iconic feature of the hotel, capturing the attention of guests and visitors alike. The terraced façade, adorned with hanging plants, created a visual spectacle that welcomed guests upon their arrival. The balconies, enveloped in lush foliage, provided a private sanctuary where guests could relax and enjoy the surrounding natural splendor.
The successful integration of the Garden Wing into the existing high-rise hotel showcased WATG’s ability to create inspirational and original architectural solutions. The project not only enhanced the guest experience but also served as a significant milestone for WATG in Asia.
