WATG’s Great Architectural Bake-Off New York
By WATG
September 13, 2017
Last year WATG and Wimberly Interiors brought the Great Architectural Bake-Off (GABO) to NYC for the first time. The London event, which has now run successfully for three years, has witnessed some of the world’s most iconic buildings rise out of butter and flour, at the hands of some of the biggest design firms. We are thrilled to announce that GABO will make an exciting return during Archtober on Tuesday, October 3rd. Renowned names in design will once again be invited to recreate the world’s most iconic buildings entirely out of cake.
Architectural heavy weights will descend on The Center for Architecture to battle it out with firms such as Dattner Architects, Davis Brody Bond ZGF Architects, ASH NYC, Woods Bagot, Grade New York, Bespoke Careers, MADE, Hollwich Kushner and Wimberly Interiors.
Teams will be provided with basic construction tools and are encouraged to experiment with their use of edible ingredients; last year’s entrants incorporated sculpted sugar glass, jelly and fruit into their creations. This year, we expect to see even more inventive and delicious solutions to enthral the judging panel.
The architectural masterpieces will be judged by experts and industry leaders in the fields of food, design and architecture. This year’s panel features renowned writer and design editor of New York Magazine, Wendy Goodman and esteemed
architecture writer and critic Fred Bernstein who won the Oculus Award in 2008, bestowed by the New York Chapter of the American Institute of Architects for distinction in architecture writing.
The event is open to the public and part of Archtober, New York City’s Architecture and Design Month, the annual festival of architecture tours, lectures, films, and exhibitions taking place for the duration of the month.
