Wimberly Interiors, one of the world’s leading hospitality design studios, has announced that Josh Held will join the studio in New York as Vice President and Director of Entertainment. In this role, Josh will support Margaret McMahon, Managing Director, and continue building the global hospitality and entertainment practice. Josh Held brings over 20 years of experience in creating and re-inventing hospitality design. Prior to joining Wimberly Interiors, Josh founded his own practice – Josh Held Design – where he worked primarily on the nightlife, gaming, retail, food and beverage and limited lifestyle hospitality projects.
After receiving a Bachelor of Architecture from University of Texas at Austin in 1995, he moved to New York City where he joined the Rockwell Group. He spent 11 years as a Senior Associate garnering numerous awards and nominations for projects that embodied all aspects of hospitality and entertainment architecture. It was during those years that Josh mastered his ability to bring concepts of any size to the physical world while maintaining an exceptional level of custom, one of a kind, detailing. It is with this cumulative experience and knowledge that Josh created Josh Held Design with the purpose of bringing his vision to an even larger group of clients while providing a higher level of service and personal interaction that cannot be found elsewhere.
Recognized in the industry as a disruptor, and having completed ambitious projects such as TAO Las Vegas, the Marquee Nightclub and Dream Downtown in New York City and the Chroma Nightclub in Seoul among many others, Josh brings his theatrical and playful spirit and edgy approach to design with him as he joins Wimberly Interiors.
This collaboration ushers in a new era for Wimberly Interiors which launched in 2011 and has quickly established itself at the forefront of luxury hospitality design with an award-winning portfolio of work that includes brands such as EDITION, Four Seasons, St. Regis, Ritz-Carlton, Rosewood, Viceroy, Fairmont, Belmond and Kempinski. The firm’s extraordinary designs begin with a compelling story and a spirit of curiosity that inform and intrigue guest experiences with unique expression.
“We are so excited to bring on a designer with such an innovative and distinct aesthetic. Josh and I have had a long-standing friendship and respect for each other’s work. We’ve always shared the belief that every space has a story to tell and design is an integral part of telling that story. This mindset is an important component of my approach to hospitality and his vision will infuse a new and complementary aesthetic into our team,” says Margaret McMahon, Managing Director, Wimberly Interiors.
At Wimberly Interiors, Josh will spearhead the firm’s entertainment, gaming, nightlife, and retail design projects, rounding out the firm’s robust offerings in the United States, the UK, Europe and Asia Pacific.
